Thank you for visiting my site! It has been my privilege to offer doula services to families living in Rapid City and the Black Hills since 2013. Over the years have I developed a passion to ensure other women receive the support and information they need to have optimal and satisfying childbirth experiences. My philosophy is one of “mothering the mother” by empowering women to birth without fear, and by providing a supportive environment while helping the birth process be as natural and gentle as it can be. My goal is to support each family according to their unique needs and preferences, providing education and physical and emotional support throughout the birthing process.
What is a doula?
Basically a doula helps on an informational, emotional and physical level. I’m there to help answer any questions you have about your unique birthing process and provide information about the different things that may come up during your labor and birth. I provide pain management through positioning and massage. I also help on an emotional level to walk both you and your partner through your birth experience. As a registered nurse specializing in mother child care, certified birth doula, breastfeeding counselor, and mother of 12 I draw upon my professional knowledge, training and experience to help my clients feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible all while encouraging the progression of the birthing process. The majority of my clientele strive for a natural birth experience, but I support families in all circumstances, including medicated births and cesarean birth. If you decide to hire me, we will schedule another meeting to discuss your best ways of coping with pain and fatigue and how you and your spouse foresee us working together. We will talk about laboring positions and relaxation techniques and discuss a birth plan. I will assist you in formulating a birth plan, answer questions about what to expect, and address any fears or concerns you may have. When labor begins, I come to your side as soon as you feel I’m needed. I typically help my clients labor at home until they feel ready to head to go to the birth center or hospital. I will stay with you throughout your entire birth experience and about one hour postpartum. I can also help with initial breastfeeding as well. If, for some unforeseen reason, I am unable to join you during labor, I have a number of experienced back up partners available who can fill in for me.
